"Hurricane/Erosion Hoop Dream" 2010

Aug 2010:
Been a minute since I've updated on here. I may be a little late on this but the 20(12) show was really great. It couldn't of been possible without all the artists involved. Much respect to everyone involved. Below are shots of the show space and some reviews we received. We have a photo spread in the next issue of Ocean Drive. It still isn't out so I can't post the link at the moment.

New Solo Exhibit

SATURDAY, MAY 8TH - KIKI VALDES: BACK IN THE CLUB DAYS

May 2010: I'm having a solo show of older works from the days I painted at clubs. Check it out

KIKI VALDES: BACK IN THE CLUB DAYS
Live work from 2004 – 2006

The collection of work by Kiki Valdes that will be included in the show “Back in the Club Days” at Cafeina Gallery is from the years the artist spent live action painting at various nightclubs around Miami Beach and New York between 2004 - 06.  The work is intuitive and direct by application of paint. The subject matter ranges from narratives of Hispanic stereotypes amplified by motifs of Latin women and symbols of Caribbean culture and folklore.  Each work in the show was created in a hurry and in limited time among party spectators.

Public Opening: Saturday May 8th. 6pm - 12am
(Show runs till June 9th)

Sneak Peak of show: Thursday May 6th 9pm

297 NW 23rd Street

Secret Knowledge + Hidden Chaos

NEW VIDEO SHOWS KIKI VALDES WORKING

Kiki Valdes- Secret Knowledge & Hidden Chaos from Chris Sullivan on Vimeo.

Feb. 2010 -
Friends, How are you? I wanted to share with you a video of me at work at
the studio taking some questions about art and media. This was filmed by Chris Sullivan, who has filmed Art Basel coverage for the past 2 years for Saatchi Gallery.

We felt it was time to show the work I've been doing in a more intimate way. People often times only remember you for one thing you do, in my case it was my satirical approach to Cuban art and my performance painting. The work in the video I have been exploring for 2 years now. The site will also be updated with new works as well to give a better idea of the progress.

If you enjoy the video we strongly encourage you all to post it on tweeter, facebook feeds or your personal blogs.
Thanks for your support and for spreading the word.

Special thanks to producer of the project Chris Sullivan.

TIME + TEMP: Survey of South FLA Painting

TIME + TEMP/ PAINTING GROUP EXHIBITION AT HOLLYWOOD ART & CULTURE CENTER

Kiki Valdes, Secret Socially Hand to Face, 2009, Oil on canvas  Private collection

Nov 09 - I have been included in this new painting exhibit TIME + TEMP at the Art & Culture Center of Hollywood. Information about the show is below. Special thanks to the curator Jane Hart for getting me involved.

This exhibition presents a survey of dynamic work by a
selection of South Florida based artists who embrace and incorporate
aspects of painting into their practice. A resurgence of painterly
tendencies is currently taking hold among artists on a national even
international level. Its growing appeal is also evident within the ever
expanding contemporary art community in our region.

Some of the artists included in this exhibit include:

Guerra de la Paz, Daniel Newman, Kiki Valdes, Pepe Mar, Chuck Webster, Bhakti Baxter, Michael Vasquez, Brandon Opalka, Jacin Giordano, Gavin Perry, Skot Olsen among many others.

In conjunction with TIME + TEMP, The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood
will unveil a newly painted site-specific mural by artist Francesco
LoCastro in the Leonard and Sally Robbins Sculpture Garden.
